August 29th, Day 1: Depart from Washington, DC (IAD) and fly overnight non-stop to Casablanca arriving at 10:10 am local time.
August 30th, Day 2: Arrival in Casablanca and Transfer to Marrakech

Welcome to Morocco! You’re personal driver will be awaiting your arrival at the airport in Casablanca to transport you to Marrakech where your Moroccan journey will begin. Upon your arrival to Marrakech, you will check in to your riad, relax a little from your travels, and explore Marrakech on your own. Your driver/guide will be around if you need them to give you suggestions and point you in the right direction.

August 31, Day 3: Marrakech Meals Included: Breakfast
Today, after breakfast, your local city guide will meet you at your riad to start your guided tour of the city. You’ll see all the important monuments, such as Ben Yousef Madrassa, Bahia Palace, and Koutobia Mosque, and you will visit the artisan sections of the souks to witness traditional Moroccan handicrafts in the process of being created. In the afternoon, you will have the option to explore more on your own or venture outside of the medina to the famous Marjorelle Gardens. You’ll return back to your riad and then head to Jamaa El Fna as the sun sets. You can watch the square come alive from a nearby cafe terrace and then wade into the sea of excitement to experience the busiest square of Africa firsthand! You can pick one of the many food stalls that pop up out of nowhere for a delicious Moroccan meal — you’ll find everything from kebabs to sheep heads here. Once you’ve had your fill (figuratively and literally), you will be escorted back to your riad for the night.

September 1, Day 4: Marrakech to Valley of Roses* Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner

You and your driver will depart from your riad in Marrakech at 8 AM to begin your adventure of a lifetime as you travel over the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka path, reaching an altitude of nearly 7500 feet above sea level. They say that life is about the journey and not the destination and this is certainly true when you are on this road. There will be plenty of stops for tea and photographs as you take in the breathtaking vistas before arriving in Ouarzazate. Here, in the city known as the Gateway to the Sahara and famous for its film studios, you will break for lunch. After lunch, you will visit the former palace of the Glaoui clan, Kasbah Taourirt. If you wish, a backlot tour of one of the film studios can also be arranged before continuing on to Kelaat M’Gouna in the Valley of the Roses where your own kasbah for the night awaits.

September 2, Day 5: Valley of Roses to Merzouga* Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
This morning, you will visit the locals and see how they celebrate! You’ll enjoy a festive lunch with a local family before you continue on your way towards the desert. Along the way, you will stop at Todgha Gorge where you will have an opportunity to walk through the most impressive part of the canyon. In this narrow section of the gorge (as little as 33 feet wide), the rock walls climb straight up 525 feet on either side. After you’ve stretched your legs, you’ll continue on. Just before you reach the dunes, you’ll stop to visit the ancient irrigation system that once brought water from the distant Saghro Mountains to the desert. Once you reach the edge of the dunes, you will transfer to your next mode of travel: a camel. The camel will take you to your berber camp in the heart of the dunes. Once there, you can climb the nearest dune to watch the sunset and watch the stars come out. Dinner will be served at camp followed by more stargazing as you immerse yourself in the magic of the desert.
*The itinerary schedule for these two days may shift a little depending on the date of Eid al-Ahda which is determined by viewing the moon.

Setember 3 Day 6: Merzouga to Agdz Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner
Today your camel guide will wake you early so that you can watch the sunrise over the dunes. Afterwards, you will once again take to your ship of the desert (i.e. your camel) and trek back to the kasbah on the edge of the sand sea where breakfast will be served and you will have an opportunity to shower and prepare for the day. You’ll stop to visit Rissani, the last town of any size after the desert, the last city of size before the dunes. Here, you will make a quick visit the mausoleum of Moulay Ali Chrif, the founder of the Alewite Dynasty (the current ruling family of Morocco) before continuing on to the Draa Valley, also known as the Valley of a Thousand Palms. Tonight you will stay in an authentic kasbah (Kasbah Tamnougalt) that dates back to at least the 17th century. Upon your arrival, relax and enjoy tea on the terrace overlooking the lush gardens, before taking a guided tour of the kasbah and palmeraie. You’ll return back to the kasbah for a delicious dinner.

September 4 Day 7: Agdz to Marrakech Meals Included: Breakfast
After breakfast, you will begin to make your way back to Marrakech, passing through Ouarzazate once again. You’ll take a slightly different route and stop along the way to visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Ben Haddou located just outside of Ouarzazate. If this impressive ksar looks familiar, it is because it has starred (or at least made an appearance) in many movies and TV shows including Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, and Game of Thrones. After exploring and having lunch, you will take a slightly different route back to the Tichka Pass traveling through the Ounilla Valley via the route of the old salt caravans. You’ll stop for a guided tour of the former palace of the Glaoui Clan, Kasbah Telouet, before once again crossing the High Atlas Mountains arriving back to your hotel in Marrakech in time for dinner.

September 7 Day 8: Departure Day Meals Included: Breakfast
Nothing scheduled for today, so depending on your departure time and airport, you may have some free time to explore Marrakech and buy some last minute souvenirs and/or gifts. Your driver will pick you up at your riad and transfer you to the airport of your choice in plenty of time for your flight!
