Rimini Protokoll nimmt die Spur von Adolf Hitlers Hetzschrift auf und versucht zu ergründen, worauf der Mythos von „Mein Kampf“ eigentlich beruht. "Mein Kampf“ von Adolf Hitler wurde 1925/26 erstmals veröffentlicht und bis Kriegsende in einer Millionenauflage vertrieben. Seit Jahrzehnten haftet der Propagandaschrift die Aura des ‘verbotenen Buches‘ an. Dadurch übt sie bis heute einen gewissen Reiz aus. Ende 2015 laufen die vom Freistaat Bayern verwalteten Urheberrechte aus. Die Debatte, ob und in welcher Form das Buch neu veröffentlicht werden darf, hat längst begonnen – obwohl es antiquarisch erhältlich und im Internet verfügbar ist, es zudem in vielen Ländern einen stabilen Absatzmarkt hat. Was wird durch das symbolische Verbot verhindert? Und worauf gründet eigentlich der Mythos von "Mein Kampf“? Was steht darin überhaupt geschrieben? Geht Gefahr davon aus?
In ihrer neuen Produktion suchen die Theatermacher Helgard Haug und Daniel Wetzel nach Antworten auf diese Fragen – in universitären Giftschränken, auf heimischen Dachböden oder ausländischen Flohmärkten haben sie die Spur eines Buches aufgenommen, das seine geschichtspolitische Brisanz bis heute nicht verloren hat.

Rimini Protokoll sets out on the trail of Adolf Hitler’s inflammatory writings and attempts to fathom an explanation for the enduring myth of “Mein Kampf”. Adolf Hitler’s “Mein Kampf” (“My Struggle”) was first published in 1925/26, and by the end of WWII millions of copies were in circulation. For decades, the propagandistic writings have been hulled in the aura of “a forbidden book”, and thus continue to fascinate today. Currently held by the State of Bavaria, the book’s copyright will expire at the end of 2015. The debate as to whether the book should be republished – and if so, how – is in full swing, despite the fact that it is available from antiquarian dealers and on the internet, not to mention its steady sales in a number of countries. What would a symbolic ban prevent? What lies at the root of the myth of “Mein Kampf”? What does it say in the book, anyway? Is it dangerous?
In their latest production, theatre producers Helgard Haug and Daniel Wetzel search for answers. From university ‘poison cupboards’, where classified literature is kept under lock and key, to German attics and flea markets abroad, they have followed the trail of a book which still retains its historical-politically explosive nature today.
